Rwanda Announces Reopening of Tourism

Rwanda Tourism

After three months of being locked out of the world, without a visit to the undulating hilly landscapes, an august visit to the mountain Gorillas in their natural habitat nor an experience of the rich cultural milieu of Rwanda; tourists should once again be giddy and enthusiastic to experience nature and culture, as Rwanda has announced the reopening of tourism activities and international travels.

In a statement published on the website of its tourism ministry – VisitRwanda, international travel for visitors arriving by charter flight would commence operation from 17 June, 2020, while commercial flights would be allowed into the country from 1 August, 2020.

In line with concerns on the safety of tourists visiting the country and nationals exposed to contracting the Covid-19 virus, the statement noted that a robust health and safety guideline has been put in place for tourists and destinations to stem the possibility of further spread of the contagion.

Although, taking the bold step of reopening tourism, this development is followed by certain restrictions. According to the Rwanda Development Board: “All passengers, including those in transit through Rwanda, will be required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test from a certified laboratory, taken within 72 hours of arriving in Rwanda. For passengers entering Rwanda, a second test will be conducted upon arrival, with results delivered within 24 hours during which time travelers will be required to self-quarantine in a designated hotel at their own cost.”
