ProjectLEAD Champions Girl Child Empowerment

In a context where the societal position of women remains a subject of significant discourse, Project LEAD has initiated efforts to empower young women. The annual conference, convened to mark the International Day of the Girl Child, was hosted at the dynamic venue of Eko Hotels and Suites.

Under the theme “Heritage in Her Hands: Preserving Culture through Hospitality, Travel & Tourism,” the event welcomed female students from six secondary schools across Lagos.

Convened by Uzoamaka Amalu with the sponsorship of Eko Hotels and Suites, the conference served as a platform to connect young minds with industry leaders and bolster the self-worth of the participants.

In her opening address, the Director of Sales and Marketing at Eko Hotels and Suites, Dr. Iyadunni Gbadebo, articulated the foundation of the organization’s support, which is rooted in a commitment to nurturing talent, particularly among women, for future leadership roles.

She further charged the attendees with the imperative to contribute to national development.

The keynote address was delivered by Mrs. Adenike Macaulay, CEO of Wakanow, who authoritatively stated, “Being a girl child today is no longer a limitation.” Guest speaker, Dr. Seun Fakorede, Executive Adviser to the Oyo State Governor, inspired the audience on the importance of cultural preservation, remarking, “Heritage is not a monument frozen in time; it is alive… and often it rests gently in the hands of women.”

A highlight of the conference was an inter-school debate competition. Learn-With-Ease Islamic Academy, Idimu, emerged victorious, with Successlink Bridge School, Ajah, as first runner-up, and Landmark College, Ikorodu, as second runner-up.

The event was also graced by the presence of media executive, Madam Funmi Iyanda, and the hosts of Goge Africa, Amb. Isaac and Nneka Isaac-Moses.

This gathering provided a fertile ground for students to gain invaluable insights into leadership and cultural preservation. Operational support, reflecting the organization’s commitment to excellence and empowerment, was provided by Ifeoluwa Ayeyemi, Community Manager at Project LEAD, and Emmanuel Ayenigba.

Project LEAD extends its profound gratitude to its headline sponsor, Eko Hotels and Suites, as well as supporting sponsors including MTN, Fikraft Property, and Elsie Ofulue for their investment in the next generation of female leaders.
